#WomanCrushWednesday – The Ladies of Warpaint

tumblr_naxtgiCqPg1tvcg85o2_500All girl band Warpaint started on Valentine’s Day 2004. Childhood friends Emily Kokal (left) and Theresa Wayman (second from right) jammed with sisters Jenny Lee Lindberg (right) and Shannyn Sossamon (not pictured). Songs from that jam session were perfected for years, some eventually appearing on the band’s first EP, Exquisite Corpse (2008). Shannyn left the band to become an actress, later appearing in such movies as A Knight’s Tale (alongside Heath Ledger) and Wristcutters: A Love Story. Following a succession of drummers including Josh Klinghoffer, Stella Mozgawa (pictured above, second from left) joined the band.

I am writing about these women because they are excellent musicians and Warpaint has an exceptional female energy.

Warpaint’s sound could be described as experimental – Wikipedia calls it “indie rock,” but I believe it transcends genre and can’t really be classified. It’s just good music, incredibly relaxing to listen to. Since Exquisite Corpse, the band has released two full-length studio albums: The Fool (2010) and Warpaint (2014). I recommend that readers check them out.
